The Strongest Portal Backing Plates You Can Get The advanced steel alloy we use for our portal backing plates is even stronger than chromoly. It’s specialized for ultra-high force applications, so you know it’s tough enough to keep up with you. And at 5/16” thick, you can bet these backing plates will outlast anything else on your machine—even your machine itself. Measurements taken with suspension fully compressed and at max turn. Although these are not fully representative of normal riding conditions, stated tire sizes will not rub. With minimal rubbing or trimming, larger sizes can be used.
